Please remember when parking you must be completely off the road and have all 4 tires on the right side of the white line. Also it is illegal to drink alcohol within 50 feet of the river in Polk County. Please hike out all trash you bring into the gorge.
Trailhead Directions: From I-26 near Hendersonville, take Upward Rd (exit 22) and go east(away from Hendersonville) about 1.7 miles to Big Hungry Rd (SR1802). Continue east on Big Hungry Road-follow it left at the first Y intersection and then right at the second Y intersection. The trailhead will be about 3 miles down the road, after you have cross Big Hungry Creek. Look for the Pulliam Creek Trailhead on the right. Make sure to park will all tires off the road and on the right side of the white line.
Hiking Directions: The hike begins on the Pulliam Creek Trail. Head down this trail for 1.2 miles. At this point, the Pulliam Trail continues south & east and veers left. Veer right down a steep trail to the foot of the Green River Narrows. The trail is marked by pink ribbons. Caution: this trail is very steep.
Hike carefully down to the river and proceed upstream for the best viewing. The race finish line is about 100 yards up stream from the bottom of the trail. Remember to bring a jacket!
Awards Party: This year the awards party will be held on the recently finished deck and historic barn behind Thompson Store Wards Grill in downtown Saluda. Come out and join us for live music, beverages, and the awards. There will also be a highlight reel of the day’s race. The festivities will be happening between 6pm-11pm, Saturday November 3rd, 2012. I’m curious as to what the parking situation is like on race day? Is there any kind of shuttle bus from somewhere? Ive been to this trail head, though it’s been a few years I do not recall there being much room for parking at all.

There is no shuttle, but there is parking on the side of Big Hungry Road. Make sure you have all tires off the pavement and nothing is touching the white line. Some people like to hike up from the bridge at the bottom which is about a mile longer hike and sometimes less crowded. The trailhead is at the most upstream bridge on Green River Cove Road.

We came down Pulliam two years ago but want to come up Green Cove Trail this year. I have a map, but can’t tell where we get to the narrows on it from this trail. Is it as steep coming from this direction? Do we go off of the trail to get to the narrows and if so, is it marked? Thanks.

About two months ago, I tried to recon a good vantage point for the Narrows Race, and tried to find that same lower trail leading up to the Narrows. I believe the trail head is somewhere in the vicinity of the bridge crossing the Green Rvr, near the Wilderness Cove Tubing Outfit. Likely on the north east side of the bridge. Unfortunately due to dense vegitation in Sept, we were unable to find the trail head. All local maps of the GR Game Land show this trail to travers up the north side of the GR. Good luck in finding this rtrail, and hope this bit of info helps… see you at the Narrows tomorrow!
